Got kids, a free Saturday and a budget? The Springs has more free family stuff than most people realize. We've split this into free and worth the ticket, and we only list prices that come straight from the venue.
Garden of the Gods Visitor & Nature Center
📍 Garden of the Gods · 1805 N. 30th St.
Why go: The park has been free since 1909, when railroad man Charles Perkins' children gave it to the city to honor his wish that it stay open and free forever. The visitor center is free too, with hands-on exhibits about the park's geology, plants and animals.
Do: Ask about the daily Junior Ranger programs, grab a free trail map at the info desk, then walk a flat loop out among the red rocks.
Good to know: The visitor center is open 9 a.m.–5 p.m. in winter and 9 a.m.–6 p.m. Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. Park hours are 5 a.m.–9 p.m. Nov.–April and 5 a.m.–10 p.m. May–Oct.

Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum
📍 Downtown · 215 S. Tejon St., in the 1903 El Paso County Courthouse
Why go: Admission is always free, with no tickets needed. It's a grand old courthouse full of local history. A new exhibit marks Colorado's 150th.
Do: Pair it with a lap of Acacia Park and a treat downtown.
Good to know: Tuesday–Saturday, 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Closed on city holidays.

Bear Creek Nature Center
📍 Westside foothills · Bear Creek Rd., off 26th St.
Why go: Two miles of self-guided nature trails through scrub oak, prairie and creekside cottonwoods, with year-round programs for kids.
Do: Walk the nature trails and look for mule deer, then check the calendar for a program.
Good to know: Tuesday–Saturday, 9 a.m.–4 p.m. Pets aren't allowed on the nature trails, but leashed dogs can use the regional trails.

Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site
📍 Garden of the Gods · 3105 Gateway Rd.
Why go: A living-history ranch at the edge of Garden of the Gods, with barnyard storytimes for little ones.
Do: Barnyard Buddies Storytime runs Thursday mornings (10:30–11 a.m. through October), and a First Thursday preschool program runs February–November. In fall, watch for the Harvest Festival.
Good to know: The historic buildings open, for a fee, during summer programming and special events. Check the events calendar.

Pikes Peak Library District storytimes
📍 Branches all over town
Why go: Storytimes, toddler times and hands-on Idea Lab sessions, all free. Bad-weather Saturdays, solved.
Do: Get the kids their own library cards, then pick a storytime from the calendar.

Western Museum of Mining & Industry
📍 North · 225 North Gate Blvd. (I-25 exit 156)
Why go: Working machinery, a model mining drift and gold panning that's included with admission. It's an easy win for curious kids.
Do: Time it for a free guided tour (10 a.m. or 1 p.m.), when the historic machines run.
Good to know: Monday–Saturday, 9 a.m.–4 p.m. Posted admission is $14 adults and $7 kids 4–12, and kids 3 and under get in free with a paid adult. The machines get loud, so bring ear protection for sensitive ears.

Manitou Springs Penny Arcade
📍 Manitou Springs · 930 Manitou Ave.
Why go: More than 400 coin-op video, pinball and mechanical games, some over a century old, plus skee-ball and a 12-horse Derby game. A pocketful of quarters goes a long way.
Do: Hit the snack bar for a British 99 ice cream after.
Good to know: Open seven days (closed Christmas). Fall hours, Sept. 8–Nov. 5: Mon–Thu 11 a.m.–8 p.m., Fri–Sun 11 a.m.–9 p.m. Winter hours are shorter. There's one on-site ATM, so bring change.

Cheyenne Mountain Zoo
📍 Broadmoor / Cheyenne Mountain · 4250 Cheyenne Mountain Zoo Rd.
Why go: America's mountain zoo turns 100 in 2026, and its brand-new Giraffe Center opened in September.
Do: Say hi to the giraffe herd. In October, Boo at the Zoo is a safe trick-or-treat for little kids, but it needs advance tickets.
Good to know: Advance tickets are required for every visit, members included (rideshare tickets are also sold online).

U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Museum
📍 Downtown · 200 S. Sierra Madre St.
Why go: Immersive, hands-on exhibits built to be universally accessible, plus Team USA artifacts, athlete stories and the Olympic & Paralympic Hall of Fame.
Do: Check the admission calendar for resident deals. In October 2026, Colorado residents get in free on Saturdays from 2 p.m. to close with a valid Colorado ID.
Good to know: Open Monday and Thursday–Sunday, 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Closed Tuesday and Wednesday. Ticket sales stop an hour before closing.
